Bhoomi: 2021-2026
Bhoomi is an evolving musical movement created by Salim-Sulaiman through Merchant Records, built around bringing together artists, regional musical traditions, contemporary production and diverse Indian influences. Across its successive editions and releases, the project explores different voices, genres, instruments and cultural identities while maintaining a larger musical identity rooted in the diversity of India.
Vatsal Chevli has contributed to the Bhoomi projects within the professional mixing workflow at Headroom Studio, working alongside Aftab Khan and the wider engineering team. His work has involved supporting productions that bring together large arrangements, multiple vocalists, Indian acoustic and traditional instruments, contemporary production and varied sonic palettes.
Rather than focusing on a single edition, Vatsal's Bhoomi experience spans the continuing body of work and its evolving releases. The engineering environment demands consistency across very different musical styles while preserving the character of each performance, arrangement and cultural influence within a cohesive final listening experience.
The Bhoomi projects represent an important part of Vatsal Chevli's experience in large-scale Indian music production and mixing. Working across an ongoing project associated with Salim-Sulaiman and Merchant Records has given him exposure to diverse artists, production approaches and sonic requirements, with every release requiring the same attention to musical detail, balance, clarity and translation.
